Section-Wise Analysis of XAT 2006
English Usage
- Unlike every year, the XAT verbal section was not driven by vocabulary
this year. Instead it was Usage driven and that too Reasoning based

in. There were 3 Qs of this type
- 3 jumbled paragraph and 4 critical reasoning questions could have been
attempted without much trouble
- There were 6 Qs on usage based vocabulary
- There were 5 Reading comprehension passages (including a small
dialogue of 3 lines) for 24 marks in all
- Overall, it should have been possible to score only about 13-15 marks
in this section.
Data Interpretation and Reasoning
- There were 4 sets of DI (3 tables and 1 Pie chart) for 18 marks in all.
All of these were very confusing and not worth attempting

these were worth attempting.
- Overall, it should have been possible to score 10-12 in this section.
|
Quantitative Ability
- It was not only just the toughest section of the entire paper, but
also the toughest quant section among all the papers this year
- Largely all the questions were individual in nature, on the lines of
CAT. However the difficulty level was extremely high
- You needed a good understanding of functions and algebra to solve
these questions. Also some questions were asked on calculus
- Overall, you could have only score around 8-10 marks in this section
Essay
