CET 2007
(25th February 2007)

Please note that this is an earlier CET. CET 2008 has already been conducted. You can read the latest CET analysis too.

The 100 marks of Verbal and Quantitative questions had few surprises. If you have appeared for Peak Seekers prepCETs, there should have been little to bother you. Logic had 77 questions which were along the expected lines based on Peak Seekers prepCET, but there were 23 new questions. Logical Data Interpretation, Probably-True-Probably-False, Arguments, Assumptions, Conclusions were all conspicuous because of their absence. The paper was lengthier than last year's paper as the questions were time consuming especially in BODMAS, Number Series, and DI. Hence, the overall cutoff is expected to lower.  Last year a candidate with 150 out of 200 could expect to get into Bajaj (subject to performance in GD, PI etc). This year that number might fall to 135-140.
  • 200 Qs, 150 min.
  • 200 (5 multiple choices, no negative marks.)
  • No sections
Minimum Expected Score for Bajaj
  • 140

Question-Type Wise Analysis of CET 2007
Quantitative Aptitude
  • 10 questions on BODMAS. Unlike earlier CETs, these were quite time consuming. In many cases, approximation was the only way to go. You should have score 8 in 15 minutes. The emphasis on BODMAS was quite like the emphasis that Peak Seekers prepCET. Please compare this with prepTests of other institutes and you will see why smart students choose Peak Seekers.
  • 1 caselet with 5 questions on Probability. In 4 minutes, you should have scored 4 even if you had only a sketchy knowledge of Probability. 2 of the Peak Seekers prepCETs had a caselet on Permutations Combinations and Probability like the one in this CET.
  • 5 questions on pure math -- Ratio Proportion, Percentage. You should have scored all 5 in 4 minutes.
  • 5 questions on Quantitative Comparison. You should have scored 4 in 4 minutes.
  • 5 questions on Logical Math. You should have targeted 4 in 5 minutes. Logical Math was of a new type. There were 4 relationships and 4 conclusions. Earlier CETs saw 3 relationships and 2 conclusions.

Data Interpretation

  • There were 4 sets of DI with 5 questions each.
  • 1 line graph about profit-revenue-profit percentage, the kind that you regularly found in the Peak Seekers prepCETs. In the line graph questions, you should have targeted a score of 5 in 5 minutes.
  • 1 table based DI which had total number of labourers in various companies, by gender and other variable across 5 years. This was not tough, but was certainly time-consuming. Given that Logic would take so much time in the CET, you should have considered skipping this set.
  • 1 stacked-bar graph based DI with data of an exam -- number of people failed, first class, second class. Fairly easy. You should have targeted a score of 5 in 4 minutes.
  • 1 table based DI on number of voters. You should have scored 5 in 5 minutes.
  • The complete DI section had a heavy bias on percentage calculation. This was quite in line with the Peak Seekers prepCETs. In most of the Peak Seekers prepCETs, there were at least 2 sets of DIs that were heavily percentage computation intensive.

Verbal Aptitude

  • There was one Reading Comprehension passage, half a page long, followed by 9 questions. Additionally, there were 6 questions on the vocabulary found in the passage. Of the vocabulary questions, 3 were on synonyms and 3 on antonyms. In 10 minutes, you could have attempted all 15 questions with a target score of 12. Vocabulary based questions in RC are not common, but in anticipation of these, 4 of the Peak Seekers prepCETs had these.
  • There were 10 questions on Error Spotting. These were really easy. You should have scored 9 in 8 minutes.
  • Sentence Correction (i.e. underlined phrase replacement) saw 5 questions. Once again you should have obtained a full score, in 4 minutes.
  • Fill in the pair of blanks had 5 questions. In 5 minutes you should have scored 5.
  • There were 5 questions on correcting the Spelling. You should have targeted 4 in 2 minutes.
  • There were 10 questions on Paragraph Construction. This was a little tougher than usual. In 10 minutes you should have scored 5.
  • As you can guess from the preceding analysis, Verbal questions were the easiest of all in the CET.
Logical Reasoning
  • Visuals: Series with last figure missing had 10 questions. Series with middle figure missing had 10 questions. Analogies had 5 question. Odd Figure Out (in series) had 5 questions. Visual Series questions were really tough (as usual, as in Peak Seekers prepCETs). The Analogies and Odd Figure questions were worth solving. So, you should have scored 10 in 14 minutes.
  • Syllogism: The only regular type of Syllogism was the one with Cause-Effect which had 7 questions. For the first time in the CET, Critical Reasoning was asked. There were 9 Critical Reasoning Questions. CET students of Peak Seekers had exposure to Critical Reasoning questions if they had appeared for the NMAT prepTests. Additionally, there was a new question type with 4 questions. This question type was on Valid Consequences based the statements given. The novelty of the Syllogism questions should have made this all time consuming and lead to lower accuracy. Also, there was a lot to read in the questions. Even if you skipped the new Syllogism questions and only attempted the cause-effect, you should have scored 4 in 7 minutes. Other than Visuals (which are always tough), this was the toughest part of CET 2007.
  • Analytical Reasoning did not have any questions on Logical Data Interpretation. This was a big change. There was a mixed bag of 10 Verbal and Quantitative Puzzles. They were very easy and quite along the lines of the puzzles found in Peak Seekers prepCETs. You should have scored 10 in 6 minutes. In all 11 Peak Seekers prepCET, there was a set of questions on Alphanumeric Series. In line with that there was a similar set of Alphanumeric Series questions in CET 2007 with 5 questions. In 4 minutes you should have scored 5. Find the Odd Number in the Series had 5 questions and they were all seriously tough. After wasting 3 minutes on them, you should have accepted a score of 0 and moved ahead! Logical Data Sufficiency had 5 questions. Each question had 4 conclusions (unlike the usual 2). This made the question time consuming, especially as the 5 multiple choices were different in each question. You should have scored 3 in 6 minutes. There were 5 questions on Logical Set Theory. There was a twist as one had to correlate 4 statements and evaluate 3 conclusions. This made it lengthy. You should have scored 5 in 7 minutes, as they were not tough, despite being lengthy. There were 5 questions on Eligibility Criteria. If you have solved the Peak Seekers class exercises, you would have noticed a set on Engineering College admissions. Interestingly this question was exactly the same, including the conditions (only the specific numbers had changed). You should have scored 5 in 5 minutes. Questions on Rule Based Coding were introduced for the first time last year. Naturally, Peak Seekers uses relevant material and had introduced the questions in 3 of our prepCETs. This year there were 5 questions on Rule Based Coding that were fairly easy. You should have score 5 in 3 minutes. The new type of Anlaytical Reasoning question was Coding Based BODMAS. In this question type, there were 5 questions. You should have scored 5 in 3 minutes. Another new question type was Row Based Algorithms. This was a little tricky as there were too many rules and the outcome of one question could affect the answer of the next. In 5 minutes you should have score 5.
  • If you want to know more about these new Logical questions, you can contact your Peak Seekers centre or you can look at the Peak Seekers prepCETs next year. As always, we pride ourselves on having the most relevant prepTests.
